A majestic apparition suddenly filled the sky, soaring like a song on those golden wings and filling my eyes with a vision of absolute freedom.

I recently attended the 9th Butterfly India Meet that was held in Goa. We visited different sanctuaries and national parks in Goa during the 4 days of the meet and even though the rains played spoil sport managed to see a wide variety of butterflies and other fauna. This is a frog belonging to the Philautus genus. We encountered him on a night walk in the sanctuary.

February 2009, Keoladeo Ghana National Park.

I had never seen so many birds in one place before! The sky was almost blotted out as the Pintails (Anas acuta) rose one after the other from the water cackling trying to escape a hunting marsh harrier. The loud whoosh of their beating wings, the commotion all around was an amazing spectacle.
