Spire of Light

Spire of Light
I spent a delightful weekend with some friends in Wurzburg, which is in the south of Germany and therefore could not post anything new for the past few days. As usual I came back with a bunch of photos which I now need to process. So until I can post something from that trip here is something from Cologne instead, taken about 10 days back.

Aula

Aula
As I had mentioned a couple of days back I had been to Heidelberg over the last weekend. It is a beautiful little university town. Today’s photo is from there. It is the aula (auditorium in english) of the university where degrees of certain faculties are still granted.

Opera

Opera
Looks like I’ll get to shoot a little today as the weather has cleared here finally. In the meantime, here is something from the archives. This is the main concert hall of the beautiful Staatsopera in Vienna where I got to see Wagner’s Parsifal. I wanted to post this in monochrome but wasn’t happy with the results I got so here is the original color version instead, albeit slightly cropped.

Hofburg

Hofburg
Here is the huge Hofburg palace in Vienna, sometimes refered to as the mini-Versailles. This photo has undergone extensive post-processing. There wasn’t much dynamic range in the original image and therefore I increased this by quite a bit. It is now as close as possible to the way I had originally visualized it. It is also cropped and perspective corrected.

Symmetry

Symmetry
I’ve not been very regular in posting photos this past week due to various things coming up so I decided to post today’s earlier than usual. This is also from Vienna, it is the dome of the entrance building to the huge Hofburg palace complex. Although, ideally, I’d have liked to get the whole of the dome in the shot to really bring out that symmetry (it was too wide even for a wide angle lens) I’m quite satisfied with the way this has turned out. Hope you like it as well.

Atlas Shrugged II

Atlas Shrugged II
Here is another one from the Viennese parliament. This is a part of the fountain that forms the base of a statue of Athena, the whole of which can be seen in yesterday’s photo. I’ll be posting a couple more photos of this fountain from different perspectives in the days ahead. All these photos were shot hand-held.

The Two Towers

The Two Towers
This is one of my favorite photos among all that I’ve shot in recent times. I like the way everything came together in this, me waiting, shivering in bone freezing wind for the light to be right and hoping a bird would fly into the frame, the way PP went etc, etc. But I don’t think of all those incoveniences now. All I see is a photo my eyes love to stare at! I hope you will agree with me.
